Keep In Touch

In my experience this means
"write me sometime, if you want,
because I can't, really, think
of any reason I'd have
to write to you.
I mean I like you okay,
you're an interesting person,
but, well, I've got a life,
you know...?"

I can hardly think
of an expression that means
so much the opposite of what it says.
People are always using words
to say something other
than what they mean.
Often it is because they
don't want to hurt your feelings.
Sometimes it is because they
want to take advantage of you,
and they think
their words will fool you.

Keep in touch...
keep your hand in mine,
let me feel your hip next to mine
on the couch,
lean your shoulder
against my shoulder
as we ponder the crossword puzzle,
put your arm around me
because I'm cold.

So, keep in touch,
write me sometime
a post card
or an email maybe
and I'll read it
and I'll think of you
what an interesting person you are
and maybe I'll remember
one time when we touched
and something flowed between us
in that moment
and there will be the tingle,
just there,
of remembered contact,
kept
in touch
